A lot of the time I used to think: I am the only one who felt something a certain way, experienced a unique perspective or sensation. Of course, once I grew up, I realised this was a bunch of crap and everyone thought that!
The reason why I think poetry is such a valuable medium of literature is that it the beginnings of a song; it has the feeling and rhythm that is often harder to portray in prose. A single event or emotion, a place or a time can be word-drawn, beat-mapped and makes it easier for others to absorb what you are trying to share.
We are all cause and effect creatures, as this is how our world works. Right down to the simple chemicals that make up our bodies, to the way we react to complex social situations: we are cause and effect. Everyone will inevitably feel a similar way to you at any given point; it's how you then reflect upon the effect that makes it your own experience.
On a less musing note, I got an email from Peter Knaggs, the publisher of 'The Hull Connection' - the anthology in which my poems will be appearing some time soon. I've never had someone be so determined that my work and information is exactly the way I want it before... it's a nice feeling. Saying that, I didn't much like having to write about myself in the third person, but I kept it pretty obvious that it was me writing it, so hopefully it will just be taken in the spirit of the book. Of course, there will be a whole plethora of styles and forms, but ultimately... to entertain.
This is my 'autobiography'. I hope it's informative enough and doesn't smack of 'crazy cat woman'...
